#Awards & Recognition ·2022-12-08
On
December 5, 2022, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme
(UN-Habitat) officially announced the winners of the "2022 Asian Urban
Landscape Award" on its official website. The
"Xingfuling" project—an ecological homestay cluster in Danling Happy
Ancient Village, Meishan City, China—was honored with this award,
ranking first among the winning cases. This international recognition
signifies that China's practices in ecological sustainable development
and rural revitalization have gained high international acclaim.
The
"Asian Urban Landscape Award" was jointly established in 2010 by the UN-Habitat Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, the Asian Habitat
Society, the Fukuoka Asian Urban Research Center, and the Asian
Landscape Architecture Society. It aims to recognize projects that serve
as exemplary models for the scientific development of cities and the
enhancement of landscape environments, providing experience and
benchmarks for urban landscape governance in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Chairman of the Jury, Yushou Sato, praised Xingfuling as an "unprecedented and unique" project, describing it as "ingeniously shaping a destination for the soul." He
noted that it has endowed the ancient village, nestled deep in the
mountains, with a renewed future, creating a simple yet aspirational
spiritual home.
Liu
Weibing, the Chief Designer of the project and Chairman of Sichuan
David Architectural Design Co., Ltd., stated that Xingfuling is the
result of natural growth through dialogue with the ancient mountain
village. The design upholds reverence for history
and the environment, preserving the village's characteristics of
"scattered, small, and delicate" volumes and its vernacular tone of
"ancient, tranquil, and rustic." Using contemporary design language and
sustainable concepts, the project revitalizes local culture,
constructing an ecological cluster that harmonizes with the geographic
and climatic conditions.
Through
innovative ecological design and cultural preservation, Xingfuling not
only achieves harmonious coexistence between humans and nature but also
provides a replicable practical paradigm for rural sustainable
development in the Asian region.
